PLANO, Texas — Frito-Lay North America has extended its Ruffles potato chip lineup with Ruffles MAX Beer-Battered Onion Ring flavored potato chips.

The PepsiCo subsidiary said Tuesday that the new chips bring a favorite snack flavor among guys — beer-battered onion rings — to a potato chip, just in time for the sports and party season.

Frito-Lay also noted that Ruffles MAX Beer-Battered Onion Ring flavored chips serve up a popular bar food taste. Citing CNN’s Eatocracy food blog, the snack brand said onion rings rank second only to their french fries in popularity.

"Guys live for those moments when they’re hanging out together at a bar, diner or tailgate party trading epic stories and munching on their favorite snacks," commented Tony Matta, vice president of marketing at Frito-Lay North America. "Onion rings are one of those staple guy-get-together foods. We wanted to incorporate that flavor for guys to share for any impromptu gathering — just grab a bag off the shelf and throw a party with your crew."

Ruffles had introduced onion-ring flavored potato chips in late 2011 in limited distribution, but Ruffles MAX Beer-Battered Onion Rings now fall under the brand’s MAX line. The snack is available for a limited time nationwide and comes in two sizes: a 2.5-ounce bag for a suggested retail price of $1.49, and an 8-ounce bag retailing for $4.29.
