BENTONVILLE, Ark. — This weekend, Sam’s Club plans to hold free women’s health screenings as a way to encourage women to take a more active role in monitoring and maintaining their health.

The Walmart warehouse club chain said the free screenings will be available on Oct. 11 to both members and nonmembers at all 599 Sam’s Club pharmacy locations.

The screenings, valued at about $250, include tests for blood pressure, total cholesterol, HDL ("good" cholesterol), glucose, body mass index (BMI) and THS (thyroid). Sam’s Club noted that thyroid conditions can often affect a woman’s overall health, including depression, weight and energy levels. Vision tests also will be offered at select locations.

Sam’s Club reported that over half of U.S. women worry about the cost of health care, and just 67% indicated that they’ve had a physical exam in the past year, according to The Futures Company.
