Sandoz rolls out shampoo for psoriasis

Sandoz has introduced clobetasol propionate shampoo 0.05%, indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe scalp psoriasis. The generic drug maker, a division of Novartis, said this week that it will market clobetasol propionate shampoo 0.05% in four-fluid-ounce (118 ml) bottles.

PRINCETON, N.J. — Sandoz has introduced clobetasol propionate shampoo 0.05%, indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe scalp psoriasis.

The generic drug maker, a division of Novartis, said this week that it will market clobetasol propionate shampoo 0.05% in four-fluid-ounce (118 ml) bottles.

According to Sandoz, the product is an authorized generic version of Galderma’s Clobex Shampoo 0.05% in the United States.

U.S. sales for branded and generic versions of clobetasol propionate shampoo 0.05% were about $54.9 million for the 12 months ended in October 2011, according to IMS Health figures reported by Sandoz.

The pharmaceutical company added that psoriasis is a common skin condition, affecting up to 7.5 million Americans.
