DALLAS — QS Holdings Inc. has signed up basketball star Shaquille O’Neal as a spokesman for its Quick Sticks fast-dissolve glucose supplement.

Starting this month, NBA star Shaquille O’Neal will be making national media appearances for Quick Sticks.

The company said Tuesday that the NBA champion and perennial all-star will serve as a Quick Sticks brand ambassador and as an educator for the product, with a mission to raise public awareness of the nation’s escalating diabetes epidemic.

According to QS Holdings, O’Neal has many family members who have long suffered from the disease. Plans call for O’Neal to kick off the new partnership with a series of national media appearances as well as fun educational videos throughout the rest of November and thereafter — with the message that he’s "Sticking It" to diabetes.

"As any person with diabetes can attest to, there continues to be a serious need for driving more research to cure the disease and more awareness on how to properly treat the day-to-day problems associated with it," stated O’Neal, who’s also a basketball TV analyst. "My goal with Quick Sticks is to provide a safe, fun and effective product, as well as inform people of the benefits of utilizing resources like Certified Diabetes Educators, the American Diabetes Association and the JDRF."

Quick Sticks are a quick-dissolve glucose supplement aimed at helping diabetics and people with hypoglycemia manage their blood sugar levels. Offered in easy-to-carry, flavored powder packets, the product provides a healthy boost of glucose for those who need to raise their blood sugar fast.

"We created Quick Sticks to help those who face the challenges of hypoglycemia tackle the issue in a way that tasted better and was more fun than the other options on the market," commented Cole Egger, founder and president of QS Holdings. "Our partnership with Shaq allows us to bring even more fun to our brand and the world of diabetes as a whole."

Quick Sticks come in boxes containing 12 sticks, each with 10g of glucose, and retail for $5.99. Flavors include sour apple and watermelon.

In early October, QS Holdings announced national distribution for Quick Sticks at Walgreens and Walmart. The product is also available in Kroger and H-E-B supermarkets, as well as online at Amazon.com.
