Somerset adds nasal spray production in New Jersey

The expansion will increase Somerset Pharma’s domestic manufacturing capacity and broaden its portfolio to include nasal spray medicines.

WASHINGTON — Somerset Pharma is expanding its New Jersey manufacturing facilities to increase domestic production capacity and to add nasal spray products to its product portfolio.

The Association for Accessible Medicines highlighted the investment as part of a broader push by generic and biosimilar manufacturers to expand pharmaceutical manufacturing in the United States.

“Somerset Pharma and AAM members are committed to working with the President and his administration to strengthen our pharmaceutical supply chain, increase domestic manufacturing of critical medicines, and encourage policies that will help more American patients have access to more cost-saving generic and biosimilar medicines,” said John Murphy III, president and CEO of the Association for Accessible Medicines.

AAM board member Aman Trehan, Somerset Pharma's chief growth officer, said the expansion is a long-term investment in U.S. pharmaceutical manufacturing.

“This milestone represents more than an expansion of our manufacturing footprint. It reflects Somerset’s long-term commitment to building pharmaceutical capabilities in the United States, strengthening domestic supply-chain resilience, and expanding access to high-quality, affordable medicines for American patients,” Trehan said.

He added that the strategy aligns with the heightened national focus on bringing pharmaceutical manufacturing back to the United States, creating jobs and supporting local economic growth.

Somerset is among several AAM members that have recently announced U.S. manufacturing investments. Amneal has announced new facilities in Chicago and New Jersey to expand end-to-end biosimilars development, while Hikma has invested in manufacturing operations in Ohio and New Jersey. Amphastar has announced a California expansion expected to quadruple production within five years, and Lupin plans to invest $250 million in a new Florida manufacturing facility.

“This is more than an investment. It is a commitment to quality American manufacturing, a commitment to the American patients, and a commitment to a stronger, more resilient domestic pharmaceutical supply chain,” said Veerappan Subramanian, chairman and CEO of Somerset.
