Southeastern Grocers to rebrand as The Winn-Dixie Company, refocus on Florida roots

SEG will exit most markets outside of Florida, selling or transitioning ownership of 32 Winn-Dixie stores and eight Harveys Supermarkets in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Southeastern Grocers, LLC, parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket, announced it will rebrand as The Winn-Dixie Company in early 2026, marking a symbolic return to its heritage and a sharpened focus on its home state of Florida.

The move underscores SEG’s intent to build on Winn-Dixie’s 100-year legacy while investing heavily in store modernization, private label expansion, and customer experience enhancements designed to “reimagine the neighborhood grocer for the next 100 years.”

“For a century, Winn-Dixie has proudly called Florida home,” said Anthony Hucker, SEG chairman and chief executive officer. “As we enter our next century as The Winn-Dixie Company – a brand-new 100-year-old company – we are accelerating growth where our roots run deepest while staying true to our purpose of feeding and enriching the communities, families and neighbors who have supported us for generations.”

The transformation includes dozens of remodels and new store projects across the state, aimed at creating more inviting, community-centered environments. SEG plans to enhance store layouts, expand its liquor store portfolio, and strengthen its Own Brand assortment—highlighted by the return of the popular Lip Lickin’ Chicken in early 2026.

In addition, the company is testing new customer conveniences such as third-party grocery delivery and in-store return kiosks, reflecting its push to blend traditional service with modern convenience.

As part of its renewed Florida growth strategy, SEG has reached an agreement to acquire Hitchcock’s Markets in Alachua, Keystone Heights, and Williston. These stores will be converted to Winn-Dixie and open in phases beginning late 2025.

The new Williston Winn-Dixie, at 434 E. Noble Ave., is expected to open in December 2025, replacing a nearby location. The Alachua and Keystone Heights stores will follow by summer 2026. Associates from the existing Williston store will be offered positions at the new site.

To sharpen its focus, SEG will exit most markets outside of Florida, selling or transitioning ownership of 32 Winn-Dixie stores and eight Harveys Supermarkets in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The company will maintain a limited presence in southern Georgia, operating stores in Brunswick, Folkston, Lake Park, St. Simons Island, and Valdosta.

Store closings and ownership transitions are expected to conclude by early 2026. Once complete, The Winn-Dixie Company will operate roughly 130 grocery stores and 140 liquor stores across Florida and southern Georgia.

“We also want to acknowledge the people and communities beyond Florida who have been an integral part of our story,” Hucker said. “We are profoundly thankful to our associates and customers in these markets for their loyalty and for making Winn-Dixie and Harveys a meaningful part of their lives. We will do everything we can to support those who supported us.”
