GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. — Kinney Drugs Inc. has elevated chief operating officer Jim Spencer to president.
Executives say Spencer’s new role gives him more responsibility for the total customer experience and strategic growth of Kinney’s 98 drug stores in central and northern New York and Vermont.
As president, he is overseeing the company’s pharmacy and retail operations, the marketing and merchandising functions, and its logistics efforts.
“Jim continually demonstrates the quality of leadership and high standards that have been an integral part of the success of our company,” chairman and chief executive officer Craig Painter says. “Combining all the functions that directly impact the profitability of our stores under Jim’s proven leadership will better position us to grow our business and enhance the overall customer experience.”
Since joining Kinney in 2010 as vice president of retail operations, Spencer has quickly climbed the corporate ladder.
The 20-year retailing veteran, who previously held positions with Boot Barn Inc., Duckwall-Alco Stores Inc. and Walmart International, was named chief operating officer in August 2012.
When Spencer took over as COO, Kinney Healthcare Services president Bridget-ann Hart said the clear vision and leadership abilities he had demonstrated since joining the company made him “a results-driven leader who has been a significant contributor to the success of our retail business.”
