Sprouts holds sneak peak for first New York location in Centereach

An assortment of more than 7,000 vitamins, supplements and wellness products awaits customers at Sprouts.

CENTEREACH, N.Y. — Sprouts Farmers Market hosted a press sneak peek on Wednesday as the chain put the finishing touches on its new store — its first New York location — opening Friday, January 30, in Centereach, Long Island.

The new 24,000-square-foot location brings with it 92 full- and part-time career opportunities to Long Island. Sprouts’ healthy approach to grocery shopping means potential team members should share a passion for healthy eating and the fresh, natural and organic products available throughout the store.

“Sprouts is bringing a fresh take on the grocery shopping experience. I think we’ve built our company on bringing fresh and local organic selections, and honestly just a wide variety of better-for-you products,” said Mychael Ramirez, PR manager at Sprouts. "New York will be our 25th state when we open on Friday," he added.

He said that Sprouts has future plans for expansion on Long Island with a new store to open in Levittown on Hempstead Tpke in The Levittown Shopping Center in 2027 and one in Smithtown in the Branch Plaza Shopping Center.

“What you’re going to find here at Sprouts is high-quality, locally sourced, organic things that are going to help you live and eat better, and just things that you’re not going to find in your typical traditional stores. So for us, we’re attribute focused, providing offerings that are gluten-free, paleo, keto friendly, that vegan dairy — I mean, the list goes on. We want to ensure that our customers feel seen and they can find the products that they need to live a healthy lifestyle,” he pointed out.

Ramirez said the majority of products that Sprouts sells are not mainstream brands.

As one of the largest and fastest-growing specialty retailers of fresh, natural and organic food in the United States, Sprouts (who was named Specialty Grocer of the Year by the editors of MMR/CDR) has an acumen to help people live and eat better. Stepping into Sprouts, shoppers can expect an experience rooted in freshness, quality and wellness — with delicious discoveries down every aisle. From everyday essentials to specialty finds, Sprouts is said to make healthy living accessible and affordable with:

• Fresh Produce — Sprouts offers the season’s freshest, most delicious produce at the heart of the store, sourced in partnership with local and regional farmers.

• Healthy Proteins — The chain sells a wide variety of protein offerings, including No Antibiotics Ever chicken, 100% grass-fed beef, sustainably sourced seafood and vegetarian and vegan offerings for the widest assortment of high-quality protein.

Fast, fresh lunch solutions include:

• $5 Sushi Wednesdays — The store rolls fresh sushi daily in-store and offers $5 sushi specials every Wednesday.

• Famous $5 Sandwiches — Sprouts’ Deli features build-your-own and grab-and-go sandwiches starting at just $4.99 featuring Sprouts Brand Deli Meats that are free from preservatives and nitrates and are sliced daily. The Deli also offers convenient ready-to-eat meals and heat-and-eat prepared foods.

• Sprouts Wellness Bowls — Fresh, flavorful and ready-to-eat meals are made daily in-store, packed with protein and perfect for a quick, healthy meal, starting at just $8.99.

• Wellness Products — An assortment of more than 7,000 vitamins, supplements and wellness products awaits customers at Sprouts, with wellness experts in every store offering a wealth of knowledge to guide customers on their health and nutrition journeys. “In addition to our Sprouts brand is on the grocery side; we also have our own Sprouts brand on the body and health care side, which is called Real Root,” Ramirez said.

• Bulk Department — The Sprouts bulk department features hundreds of bins and barrels brimming with freshly roasted coffee beans, rice, nuts, dried fruits, granolas, trail mixes, baking essentials, spices and sweets — customers scoop up as much or as little as they need. All bulk products are free from artificial colors and artificial flavors.

• Sprouts Rewards — "Sprouts Rewards makes shopping more rewarding. Members earn points on every in-store and online purchase, unlock exclusive events and offers, and enjoy more ways to live and eat better. The program is free to join; points start after the customer’s first purchase, and it’s available at all Sprouts locations nationwide," he noted.

There is also a section called Forger Finds. "We have a foraging team that selects new and unique products to sell. This rotates every 90 days and basically offering new brands a trial phase and if it is successful then we'll bring 'em in on mainline onto our store shelves. It's just a great way to try new brands," Ramirez pointed out.

“When Sprouts first opened for business in 2002, we started as a farmer’s market, and so produce is at the heart of everything we do. We started off as a farmer’s market. We started off as a fruit stand, and so that’s why when you go to any sprouts across the country, you’re always going to find the produce section in the dead center of the building, because it’s near and dear to our heart, it’s near and dear to what we do. So, like I said, produce is at the heart of everything we do. So more than 50% of the produce that we sell is organic. We’re bringing fresh in-season produce to our communities. It’s also locally sourced. So we work with local and regional partners when possible. Obviously seasons impact that a little bit, but we’re constantly bringing in fresh or innovative new options that you’re seeing,” Ramirez said.

“We’re just excited to be here,” he added.

To kick off grand opening weekend, Sprouts is hosting a series of on-site activities. From Friday through Sunday a variety of activities will celebrate the grand opening. A “pop-up party” out front will feature a DJ, opportunities to taste seasonal produce from the tasting bar and more. "These activities are fun for the whole family and will last all weekend long."

Ramirez said that the first 200 shoppers on Friday and Saturday will receive a free reusable goodie bag filled with special products and samples. Plus, the first 400 guests on Friday will receive a free long-stem rose courtesy of Falcon Farms Floral.

Shoppers can receive 20% off their purchase over the grand opening weekend when they sign up for a Sprouts Rewards account. Visit sprouts.com/rewards to join Sprouts Rewards. The chain is also invested in serving the communities where it operates. The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation recently announced a $325,000 donation to the Middle Country Library Foundation to expand hands-on nutrition education, garden and wellness programs offered at the library in Centereach.
