ARLINGTON, Va. — Tom Skelton has become chief executive officer at Surescripts.

A seasoned CEO with expertise in both the health care technology and health care services sectors, Skelton held leadership roles previously with Foundation Radiology Group, MED3000 and Misys Healthcare Systems.

“Tom will play a key role as we continue to perfect e-prescribing and expand our clinical network to create a comprehensive, unified health care system that improves outcomes, increases efficiency and decreases costs,” noted Douglas Hoey, co-chairman of Surescripts’ board.

Co-chairman Steven Miller added that Skelton “has a deep understanding of the provider work flow, having previously led firms that develop technology products for physicians and clinicians, and brings tremendous operational and management experience, as well as a proven ability to set a clear vision for the development and commercialization of new technologies.”

Surescripts connects 70% of physicians and 95% of community pharmacies for electronic prescribing.

“Surescripts is well positioned for continued success as we work collaboratively with our customers to navigate the complex and evolving landscape of American health care,” said Skelton.
