Finalists for Product of the Year go before consumers

Product of the Year USA moved one step closer to selecting the year’s most unique and innovative products when a panel of judges narrowed the field of eligible items. During the judging, the 30-member panel headed by Walgreen Co. chief innovation officer Colin Watts rated nearly 40 new products.

Johnson & Johnson to pare workforce

Health Enterprises Inc. is expanding its line of hearing protection offerings with the Pro-Fit and Swim-Fit Custom Molded Earplugs. Both products enable consumers to easily form a custom molded earplug to fit the unique contour of their ear within 10 minutes, according to the company.

Ex-Longs exec lands at ECRM

ECRM has named former Longs Drug Stores marketing manager Cheryl Gherlone as vice president of general merchandise. Gherlone joined ECRM in June, working on a variety of sales-related projects researching potential new events for the company.

Emerson Group adds Hurd, Rasmussen to team

Rob Hurd and Kevin Rasmussen have joined consumer products consulting and services firm The Emerson Group as regional managers. Hurd’s responsibilites will include Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Kmart Corp.

Coca-Cola to offer slimmed down ‘mini’ can

The Coca-Cola Co. recently initiated two efforts to help calorie-conscious consumers. Earlier this month, the company announced plans to launch a 90-calorie mini can later this year. Coke says the smaller can, which contains 7.
