CLEVELAND — Blue Spark Technologies Inc. has expanded distribution of its TempTraq wearable Bluetooth temperature monitor at leading food, drug and mass retailers.
Designed to help parents care for sick children, including during the night, TempTraq continuously senses, records and transmits body temperature for 24 hours to a mobile device via a free downloadable app.
TempTraq is now available for purchase at CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens and Target stores, as well as such other retail chains as Kroger, Fry’s, Dillons, Ralphs and Hy-Vee.
Blue Spark said TempTraq provides temperature readings in seconds, and the wearable patch makes it easier to track the temperature of an ill or recovering family member, such as by eliminating the need to continually disturb or wake them.
The company noted that unlike other devices that provide one point of data and offer no continuous monitoring or alerts, the TempTraq app displays real-time and historical temperature data transmitted from the patch in graphical or tabular view, helping caregivers see changes and quickly adapt treatment.
To simplify the temperature readings, TempTraq uses colors to indicate temperature levels: green for less than 100.4°F, orange for equal to or greater than 100.4°F, and red for equal to or above the user-set temperature alert level. Caregivers also can receive alerts when a patient’s temperature enters the designated red zone.
TempTraq includes a downloadable iOS- or Android-compatible app. Users press the start button to activate the temperature monitor and connect to the app. Then they apply the thin, flexible patch to the underarm of the patient as directed. As long as caregivers are within range of the patient, up to 40 feet away, they can review data and receive alerts.
Users also can securely send temperature information via email to doctors or family members and, through the TempTraq app, keep track of when the patient eats, drinks or takes medicine. The app, too, enables users to monitor multiple patches at once.
