JERUSALEM — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. has begun the commercial launch of escitalopram oxalate tablets, an antidepressant medication.
Teva said Wednesday that its product is a generic version of Forest Laboratories’ Lexapro Tablets.
Teva added that it has been awarded a 180-day period of marketing exclusivity for its product, since it was the first company to file an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) containing a paragraph IV certification for the generic medication.
Lexapro is indicated for the treatment of depression and generalized anxiety disorder. The branded product had annual U.S. sales of about $2.9 billion, based on IMS Health data cited by Teva.
