DENVER — Over-the-counter medicine startup UrgentRx has been boosting its retail presence with the help of Duane Reade.

The company said it has worked closely with the New York City drug chain, part of Walgreen Co., to craft innovative point-of-purchase displays for front-end checkouts and the pharmacy counter, where they’ll catch the eyes of customers in line.

The UrgentRx Right Now Pain Relief Center displays are within easy reach of on-the-go customers at checkout and in the pharmacy at Duane Reade stores.

Dubbed Right Now Pain Relief Centers, the POP displays entice consumers to reach out and grab the products while providing a single place to address all of their OTC medication needs, according to UrgentRx.

UrgentRx products made their debut at Duane Reade earlier this year, and so far sales have well-exceeded expectations, UrgentRx noted.

"As the reputation of our products has grown, we’ve been pleased by the response from consumers, who are quickly recognizing that being on-the-go doesn’t mean you have to suffer when common ailments strike," stated Jordan Eisenberg, president and founder of UrgentRx. "We’ve discovered that the secret to reaching the busy OTC consumer is to hit them with concise, clear messaging that speaks to their lifestyle and placing the products in a location that’s easy to find and encourages impulse buying.

UrgentRx’s fast-acting, powdered medications come in credit card-size packets that can be taken anytime, anywhere. According to the company, the OTC medications are formulated in a pleasant-tasting powder that doesn’t require liquid to take and works nearly 2.5 times faster than traditional pills or tablets. The compact packets also are designed to easily fit in a wallet or purse credit card slot, are more portable than pill containers and are readily available in times of medical emergencies, the company said.

With names that take a direct approach to common ailments, UrgentRx’s products include Headache Relief To-Go, Heartburn Relief To-Go, Allergy Attack Relief To-Go, Ache & Pain Relief To-Go, Upset Stomach Relief To-Go and Critical Care Aspirin To-Go.

"The flexibility and willingness to work together has created a win-win relationship for both UrgentRx and Duane Reade," Eisenberg added. "Our products are reaching consumers the way they shop, and Duane Reade is able to provide an innovative solution for consumers seeking real-time relief from common ailments."

Along with Duane Reade’s more than 250 stores, UrgentRx products are now sold at such food and drug retailers as Walmart, King Soopers, Ralphs, Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Hy-Vee, Lewis Drug, Pharmaca and Quality Food Centers, as well as online at walgreens.com, drugstore.com and amazon.com. UrgentRx said it aims to have a retail presence in over 25,000 locations nationwide by the third quarter.
