DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreen Co. has announced a strategic alliance with the National Football League’s New York Giants as the team’s official retail pharmacy.
Walgreens said Wednesday that under the alliance, the Giants will support the drug store chain’s fall flu shot program and diabetes testing events with player appearances. In addition, the retailer will work the Giants staff to produce a co-branded health and wellness publication to be available in its stores throughout the New York area.
Including Duane Reade stores, Walgreens has more than 365 retail pharmacies throughout the greater New York metropolitan area and upper New Jersey.
The drug chain kicked off its flu shot program last week. The pharmacy operator’s diabetes testing events are slated to be held in November in tandem with American Diabetes Month.
"Today’s athletes are role models in their communities, and we look forward to working with the Giants organization to heighten awareness around flu season, diabetes treatment and prevention, and other important health and wellness initiatives," Jeff Koziel, Walgreens’ New York market vice president, said in a statement. "Walgreens and the Giants have rich histories in New York, and together we’ll work to educate and motivate New Yorkers to stay well throughout the season."
As the Giants’ official retail pharmacy, Walgreens also will serve as the exclusive presenting sponsor of New York Giants Youth Football Camps.
"We’re proud to partner with Walgreens, a trusted pharmacy and health services provider here in New York and across America, to promote preventive health care as another way of giving back to our loyal fans in communities throughout New York and New Jersey," commented Mike Stevens, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for the New York Giants. "Since 2008, the Giants have distributed more than 2 million health and wellness publications in the New York market, and our alliance with Walgreens positions us to expand these efforts."
