Walgreens Boots Alliance to sponsor world’s fair U.S. pavilion

Walgreens Boots Alliance will be a key sponsor of the USA Pavilion at the world’s fair in Milan, Italy, which begins later this week.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens Boots Alliance will be a key sponsor of the USA Pavilion at the world’s fair in Milan, Italy, which begins later this week.

The company said Wednesday that, along with sponsoring the USA Pavilion, it will have a designated space to showcase Walgreens and Boots retail, service and product offerings.

Running May 1 to Oct. 31, Expo Milano 2015 has the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” focusing on how countries generate healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone now and into the future while respecting the planet and its environment.

The USA Pavilion will showcase American innovation in the food sector and other aspects of culture, science and business. Themed “American Food 2.0: United to Feed the Planet,” the pavilion aims to spotlight America’s role in the future of food around the world and create a global conversation about the challenge of feeding more than 9 billion people nutritiously and sustainably by 2050.

“Less than four months after the formation of Walgreens Boots Alliance, our sponsorship of the USA Pavilion is a unique opportunity to highlight our commitment to help people lead healthier and happier lives,” stated Ornella Barra, executive vice president at Walgreens Boots Alliance and president and chief executive of global wholesale and international retail. “In addition, this major event will enable us to showcase the corporate brand of our new enterprise to international audiences and millions of visitors from across Europe, the Americas, Asia and rest of the world.”

Walgreens Boots Alliance also is a participant in Friends of the USA Pavilion Milano 2015, a partnership of private-sector companies selected by the U.S. Department of State to work with the U.S. government to develop and implement an official American presence at the expo.

At Expo Milano 2015, more than 140 countries will show their solutions that contribute to the development and maintenance of a healthy, safe and sufficient food supply for the world. More than 20 million people are expected to visit the fair’s 1.1 million square meters of exhibition space.

“The USA Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 will show how feeding ourselves engages a massive infrastructure and dynamic systems that touch on just about every aspect of the world we live in,” ambassador Douglas Hickey, commissioner general of the USA Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015, said in a statement. “Each step from farm to table reflects a set of connections that impact our identities and shape our future, and we are pleased to partner with Walgreen Boots Alliance as a successful enterprise dedicated to improving people’s lives.”
