Walgreens said Friday that Theriault is leaving the CIO position for personal reasons. He has served as the drug chain’s CIO for more than five years.
Anthony Roberts, who has served as senior vice president and international CIO, will take the reins as senior vice president and global CIO of Walgreens Boots Alliance.
Plans call for Theriault to serve as a consultant to the company and as a senior adviser to executive vice chairman and acting chief executive officer Stefano Pessina on a range of issues, including cybersecurity, according to Walgreens.
Theriault joined Walgreens as senior vice president and CIO in October 2009. He also served in the roles of chief innovation and improvement officer before being appointed executive vice president and global CIO in October 2012. Prior to joining Walgreens, Theriault was president of corporate and institutional services for Northern Trust Corp. from January 2006 to October 2009.
“Tim has played a critically important role over the past six years leading Walgreens’ IT transformation and advancing and integrating the Walgreens Boots Alliance technology teams and infrastructure since the merger of Walgreens and Alliance Boots last December,” Pessina said in a statement. “We are grateful for all that Tim has done and for continuing as a consultant and a senior adviser to me as we pursue new global frontiers in IT to serve customers, patients and partners.”
Walgreens noted that Roberts brings extensive experience as an IT professional to his new role and has worked for global companies throughout his career, including PepsiCo and United Parcel Service. He has led the transformation of IT across Alliance Boots and most recently was a co-leader in the integration office in the lead-up for the merger of Walgreens and Alliance Boots, the company said.
