DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens has opened a new micro-fulfillment center in Kent, Washington last week, furthering its commitment to the local community and the future of pharmacy care.
The state-of-the-art facility will support nearly 196 Walgreens stores across the region, including 122 locations in Washington, by streamlining prescription fulfillment and enabling pharmacists to spend more time providing direct patient care. The center also will create 85 new jobs, contributing to economic growth and expanding employment opportunities in the area.
"The opening of our Kent micro-fulfillment center reflects Walgreens' continued investment in the future of pharmacy and the communities we serve," said Jon Joplin, Chief Technology and Operations Officer, Automated Fulfillment at Walgreens. "By combining innovative technology with the expertise of our pharmacy teams, we're strengthening our ability to support patients across the region, creating new opportunities for our team members and helping pharmacists spend more time focused on delivering high-quality patient care."

Walgreens first rolled out its prescription micro-fulfillment program in 2021 through an automated facility in the Dallas area dedicated to the fast and efficient fulfillment of prescription orders.
The Kent facility joins Walgreens' growing network of micro-fulfillment centers that use advanced robotics and automation technology to improve prescription processing efficiency. The center is expected to fill approximately 7 million prescriptions annually.
