WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Walgreens has been named the top national pharmacy chain for 2010 in Outcomes Pharmaceutical Health Care’s Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Network.
Outcomes said Tuesday that this is the first year Walgreens has achieved the recognition. The drug store chain has more than 500 individual "Best in Class" pharmacies in the Outcomes network, the MTM program specialist added.
"Each year, the competition for top pharmacy chain grows. In 2010, we saw significant advances in pharmacy MTM engagement, led by the efforts of Walgreens," stated Jessica Frank, director of clinical services at Outcomes Pharmaceutical Health Care. "In 2011, we expect the bar will be raised again."
Kerr Drug was the recognized as the leading chain in the Outcomes MTM network in 2009. The honor marked the third consecutive year that the North Carolina chain drug retailer was named as a top pharmacy chain by Outcomes.
Outcomes also named two dozen top individual MTM Centers, which included chain drug stores, independent pharmacies and other health care providers.
Among the chain drug retailers with stores recognized as top MTM Centers were Walgreens (for stores in New York, South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, Wisconsin and Minnesota), Kerr Drug (for store in North Carolina), Wegmans Food Markets (for store in Maryland), Kroger (for stores in West Virginia and Ohio), Meijer (for store in Michigan), Winn-Dixie Stores (for store in Louisiana), H.E. Butt (for store in Texas), Supervalu (for Albertsons/Sav-on store in Nevada) and Price Chopper (for store in Kansas).
To be eligible for selection, a pharmacy must have achieved a "Best in Class" designation from Outcomes while providing a wide range of covered services.
