DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens is positioning itself as a reliable destination for both last-minute essentials and pharmacy services this Independence Day, as holiday activities drive one of the year’s busiest periods for emergency and urgent care visits.
Stores will operate under regular business hours on July 4, with more than 4,000 pharmacy locations open—an expansion from prior years when most pharmacies were closed despite store openings. The increased availability is intended to improve access to prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and pharmacist support during peak demand.
The Fourth of July consistently ranks among the busiest days for emergency rooms, fueled by injuries related to fireworks, grilling, travel and outdoor activities. Many patients require immediate prescriptions or medication guidance following treatment, underscoring the importance of pharmacy access as an extension of care during the holiday.
In addition to expanded pharmacy access, customers can continue to take advantage of special promotions, 1-hour Delivery, 30-minute Pickup*, and convenient in-store shopping throughout the holiday for last-minute needs.
Store and pharmacy hours may vary by location. Customers are encouraged to check the store locator for the most up-to-date store and pharmacy hours.
Military Appreciation Offer: In honor of Independence Day, Walgreens will offer a 20% in‑store discount to veterans, active‑duty service members, and their immediate families, including families of fallen heroes from Friday, July 3, to Sunday, July 5.
The discount is available to customers enrolled in myWalgreens who present a valid military ID or proof of service at checkout. Enrollment in myWalgreens is free and can be activated at checkout.
