DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreen Co. is deploying Greenway Medical Technologies Inc.’s enhanced electronic health record (EHR) platform to more closely integrate its health care services.
The technology is in more than 200 Walgreens stores, with a chainwide rollout slated to be completed by the end of next summer.
The platform, WellHealth EHR, is part of Walgreens’ HealthCloud initiative supporting the transformation of its drug stores to health and daily living destinations. WellHealth EHR delivers to Walgreens’ pharmacy staffs a single patient view capturing immunization and health testing history with a prescription profile.
Once the rollout is complete the retailer will have up-to-date immunization and health testing records combined with pharmacy information without regard to the Walgreens store where the patient received the service. The platform also makes it possible for customers to schedule appointments and supports real-time medical billing.
WellHealth EHR is also scalable to support additional pharmacy, health and wellness services in the future, including integration with electronic prescribing and data exchange that tracks patients throughout the care continuum.
“With a view into a customer’s prescription, immunization and health testing record, our pharmacy staff can provide additional recommendations such as whether the customer is due for a specific immunization,” said Walgreens chief information officer Tim Theriault. “Greenway continues to deliver health information technology platforms that fit the innovative health care delivery models we are rolling out to consumer and employer markets. The deployment of EHR technology advances our pharmacy staff’s ability to provide integrated and comprehensive health care services in the communities where people live and work.”
Greenway president and chief executive Tee Green said, “The deployment of EHR solutions supporting Walgreens community pharmacy, health and wellness initiatives is another milestone in our mutual goal of improving population health.”
The latest rollout builds on a relationship that began in 2010 with Walgreens’ deployment of Greenway’s EHR, practice management and interoperability solution, PrimeSUITE, in work-site health centers.
