BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Walmart is closing its corporate office in Charlotte, N.C., resulting in job cuts and relocations to Bentonville and California. While Walmart did not disclose the number of affected employees, reports suggest the cuts could be in the hundreds.
On Tuesday, Donna Morris, Walmart's Chief People Officer, shared the news of upcoming changes in an email to U.S. staff. She stated that these changes are intended to improve collaboration, innovation, and speed. As Walmart opens its new corporate campus in Bentonville, it is also expanding its presence in Sunnyvale, California; Bellevue, Washington; Hoboken, New Jersey; and New York City.

“Our value and culture are strategic differentiators for us as a company, and they are fostered by being together. We’ve already seen the benefits of having more teams working together in person, and today we are sharing another step that will help accelerate our momentum,” Morris wrote in the memo given by Walmart to Talk Business & Politics.
Employees from Hoboken, Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto are being asked to relocate to Bentonville or Sunnyvale. Some positions have been eliminated during this restructuring, but Walmart has not provided a relocation timeline.
Walmart is providing severance pay and relocation assistance to help impacted employees. In May 2024, the company disclosed that employees would have to move to Bentonville or Sunnyvale and that all remote workers must return to the office full-time.
