PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. is set to release Next Choice ONE DOSE (levonorgestrel 1.5 mg), an emergency contraceptive pill.
The company said Friday that its Watson Laboratories Inc. subsidiary has received Food and Drug Administration approval for the product, a generic equivalent of Teva Women’s Health’s Plan B One-Step tablet. Watson plans to launch its product immediately.
Plan B One-Step is a progestin-only emergency contraceptive indicated for prevention of pregnancy after unprotected intercourse or a known or suspected contraceptive failure.
For the 12 months ended May 31, Plan B One-Step had U.S. sales of about $88 million, according to IMS Health figures reported by Watson.
