WBA hires AbbVie VP to lead USA communications

Gulden Mesara-Dogan has joined Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) as vice president of communications USA, the division that includes the Walgreens and Duane Reade drug chains.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Gulden Mesara-Dogan has joined Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) as vice president of communications USA, the division that includes the Walgreens and Duane Reade drug chains.

In the role, Mesara-Dogan will oversee communications serving WBA’s enterprise and USA businesses and operations, including the Walgreens communications division, Walgreens external communications, and the WBA internal communications and corporate events groups. She will report to Chuck Greener, senior vice president for global communications and corporate affairs.

Mesara-Dogan brings more than 20 years of communications experience to WBA, including at large pharmaceutical companies. Most recently, she served as vice president of global commercial and health communications at AbbVie Inc.

At AbbVie, she led communications and patient relations for all of AbbVie’s marketed products, pipeline assets and regional business priorities. Before that, she was senior director of international public affairs and communications at Abbott Laboratories Inc.

She joined Abbott after 13 years at Pfizer Inc., most recently as regional communications head for emerging markets. At Pfizer, she held positions in marketing, communications and public affairs, including as regional head of communications across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America and top emerging markets across the world.

WBA said Mesara-Dogan will serve alongside Laura Vergani, vice president of international and divisional communications, who also will continue to report to Greener in her role overseeing international communications.
