INDIANAPOLIS — Walgreen Co. has rolled out its new Web Pickup service at stores in this metropolitan area, giving online shoppers a brick-and-mortar pickup option.
Indianapolis is the second full-market rollout for Web Pickup, which lets consumers shop at Walgreens.com and get their merchandise at a Walgreens outlet in as little as an hour. The service is also available throughout Chicago and at a number of stores in San Jose, Calif.
The Indianapolis launch coincides with the chain’s conversion of its units in the market to its health and daily living format.
Elements of the transformed outlets include beauty department enhancements and expanded fresh food offerings. A core focus of the health and daily living stores is the new pharmacy, health and wellness experience, which in many locations includes a pharmacist stationed in front of the prescription counter to consult with patients; private consultation rooms; health guides to help customers navigate their health care options; self-serve prescription kiosks; and Take Care Clinics for walk-in medical care.
Web Pickup offers choice, control and convenience, “and brings all of these together to cater to on-the-go shoppers,” says Walgreens president of E-commerce Sona Chawla.
“We’ve developed many innovative ways to engage our growing numbers of online shoppers and to make Walgreens.com a great shopping experience,” she explains. “By adding the convenience of in-store pickup and soon more curbside delivery locations, we’re making shopping easier than ever before — especially heading into the holidays and winter months.”
Web Pickup is now available at 71 Walgreens stores in the Indianapolis area. Most nonprescription items found in-store are available online through the service. By visiting the Web Pickup site (walgreens.com/webpickup) shoppers can build a cart of any size and dollar amount for pickup at a participating store in as little as an hour. Payment is provided online, and users have the option to receive either a text message or e-mail notification once their order is ready. Orders can be picked up at the photo counter.
Stores offering curbside service also feature designated parking spots for Web Pickup customers. A $20 minimum order is required for curbside delivery. Curbside delivery, offered at selected stores, will be added to most Web Pickup locations in the coming months.
“To shop online anywhere, anytime and be able to pick up in as little as an hour is a great convenience, especially for busy moms, those with children in the car, our mobility challenged customers who have trouble walking the aisles and many others,” Chawla says. “More and more customers enjoy the convenience and intuitiveness of our website as well as the wide product selection. With Web Pickup they get this, along with the ability to pick up their orders immediately without having to pay shipping charges.”
