With acquisition, Carex sets foot in Canada

Carex Health Brands has acquired Uplift Technologies, a Canadian maker of lifting seat and light therapy home care products. Terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed.

NORWELL, Mass. — Carex Health Brands has acquired Uplift Technologies, a Canadian maker of lifting seat and light therapy home care products.

Terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed. Carex said Tuesday that with the purchase of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia-based Uplift, it has established Carex Health Brands Canada through this transaction.

"We were impressed with the innovative nature of the Uplift Technologies products," Carex Health Brands president Matt McElduff said in a statement. "The Uplift lifting seat and light therapy products are an obvious extension for our category-leading Carex brand. By leveraging our extensive sales and logistics network, we expect to have an immediate impact on the sales of the Uplift Technologies’ products."

Uplift Technologies offers products under the Uplift and Daylight brands. "We plan to add the brand’s existing lineup to our current broad base of distribution while continuing to innovate and expand its offerings under the Carex brand," according to McElduff.

Carex Health Brands markets its home medical equipment products — sold through drug store chains, mass merchants, durable medical equipment (DME) dealers and grocery retailers — under the Carex, Apex and Bed Buddy banners.

"The Carex brand has long been admired in the marketplace for many of the same values as Uplift, including quality, value and integrity," commented Michael Speraw, founder of Uplift Technologies. "I am pleased to hand over the reins to a company which shares my passion for improving the well-being of others."
