SALT LAKE CITY — Zarbee’s has launched a new line of over-the-counter, extra-strength natural cough medicine for adults and children age 12 and older.

The homeopathic medicine maker said Tuesday that the brand extension will supplement its existing line of Zarbee’s original cough products for children age 12 months and older.

The extra-strength products are specially formulated at a higher strength and dose than the original children’s product. The new line will consist of syrups and drinks in assorted flavors, the company said.

Zarbee’s founder and pediatrician Dr. Zak Zarbock noted that the extra-strength products came in response to demand from parents seeking a natural alternative to other OTC cough medications.

"As the desire for natural and effective remedies grows and there continues to be concern surrounding drug-based over-the-counter products, adults are realizing that they, too, need a safe alternative for treating coughs and colds," stated Zarbock.

Zarbee’s products are all-natural, drug-free and made from antioxidant-rich dark honeys, which the company said clinical trials have shown to be among the safest and most effective treatments for relieving coughs in children. Zarbee’s products do not include dextromethorphan (DM), the most common OTC treatment for coughs.

Zarbee’s products are available at such pharmacy retailers as Walmart, Target, CVS/pharmacy, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Kroger and Kmart.
