BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Matrixx Initiatives Inc. has introduced Zicam Kids, a homeopathic cold medicine designed to provide symptom relief for children ages 6 to 11.

Matrixx said Thursday that Zicam Kids, which comes in a grape-flavored soft chew, delivers safe, nondrowsy and effective relief of nasal congestion, runny nose and scratchy throat.
American children have an estimated three to eight colds per year, and in a recent survey mothers named runny noses and scratchy throats as the top symptoms they see when their children come down with a cold. Matrixx noted that the soft chew form provides an easier-to-take cold remedy for kids.
"Zicam Kids gives mom or dad a great-tasting option for treating a kid’s cold the minute the symptoms start," stated M’lou Arnett, chief executive officer of Matrixx. "Zicam Kids’ great-tasting grape chews are safe and effective, but even better its zinc-based, homeopathic formula won’t cause drowsiness or other side effects that worry parents and can sideline kids."
To highlight the new launch, Zicam has announced Z-Boy, a new hero character to the pediatric cough/cold aisle. Z-Boy "zooms across" the Zicam Kids packaging, representing how every sick kid would rather feel, according to Matrixx. The character is also making appearances on Facebook.
Zicam Kids is available now in major drug chain and, while supplies last, free samples of the product have been placed in various top-selling Zicam RapidMelts packages.
"With active moms representing a large percentage of our consumers, we thought there would be no better way to introduce Zicam Kids than to include samples in a Zicam product that moms are already using for their own colds," commented Lori Norian, vice president of marketing at Zicam.
