Aetna issues statement on Medicare Advantage plans

"Aetna has not made any announcements about 2026 Medicare Advantage offerings," said a CVS Health spokesperson.

HARTFORD, Conn. — A published report says Aetna is planning to discontinue nearly 90 Medicare Advantage plans across 34 states in 2026. The report said this decision is part of a larger trend of insurers reducing their presence in the Medicare Advantage market due to rising costs and a focus on profitability. Most of the affected plans are PPOs, and Aetna will stop paying commissions to brokers for enrolling new members in these plans starting in September.

“Aetna routinely reviews and updates our distribution strategy, including the commissionable status of our plan offerings and the channels through which we distribute them. As we continue to evaluate how best to optimize the experience for our members and partners, we’ve made the decision to make specific plans non-commissionable starting September 1, 2025," said a CVS Health spokesperson. "Aetna has not made any announcements about 2026 Medicare Advantage offerings," the spokesperson added.
