BOISE, Idaho — Most consumers intend to improve some aspect of their physical health in 2023, according to a recent survey conducted by Albertsons Cos. But half say they are not sure that they’re making healthy choices while grocery shopping.

The survey of 1,000 adults in the U.S. was conducted in March to help the retailer better understand consumers’ current health and wellness journey.

From their research, Albertsons Cos. found:

  • 83% of respondents set a goal to improve some aspect of their physical health in 2023.
  • 79% want to have a better understanding of their physical health.
  • 64% said the pandemic increased the importance of their own physical health.
  • 60% of respondents wish they had more knowledge about nutrition.
  • 51% said they are not sure if they’re buying healthy options when they go grocery shopping.

In an effort to help its customers better assess their health needs and adopt healthier habits, Albertsons earlier this year launched Sincerely Health, a digital health and wellness platform that is now accessible on the grocery apps and websites of 16 of the retailer’s banners, including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Shaw’s, Jewel-Osco, Acme, and Tom Thumb.

Sincerely Health was built in collaboration with healthcare providers, insurance companies and technology organizations who share a broader purpose to improve the health and well-being of every community they serve, Albertsons said, which plans to continually update it based on customer feedback, with the aim of positioning Sincerely Health as a trusted and reliable health resource.

“We are introducing Sincerely Health with a singular intention to improve lives,” said Omer Gajial, chief digital officer and executive vice president of health at Albertsons Cos. “As a grocery and pharmacy retailer committed to the health and wellness of our communities, we are empowering customers to have a connected and personalized view of their health across food, nutrition, activity, mental well-being and pharmacy services, enabling them to make more informed choices.”
