PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Ascend Laboratories announced the appointment of Ashish Mallela as head of parent company Alkem’s North and South America business units, expanding his leadership role after more than a decade with the organization.
Mallela joined Alkem in 2010 at the company’s Mumbai headquarters as a business development manager before relocating to Santiago, Chile, in 2013 to lead development and operations for Alkem’s new business unit there. Following Alkem’s acquisition of Pharmacor in Sydney, Australia, Mallela was selected in early 2017 to lead the acquired business, where the company said he guided the unit through more than eight years of growth.
In his new role, Mallela will oversee operations across both North and South America. The company said it plans to expand the business by building on Alkem’s established small molecule portfolio while pursuing growth opportunities in biosimilars, injectables and additional manufacturing and marketing initiatives.
Mallela has relocated permanently to the United States and is based near Ascend Laboratories’ New Jersey headquarters.
