Jewel-Osco president announces retirement

Keith Nielsen, president of food and drug retailer Jewel-Osco, plans to retire at the end of the company’s fiscal year next month. The Supervalu Inc. chain said Thursday that Nielsen’s retirement will become effective Feb. 28.

Same-store sales rose for the second straight month in January at Rite Aid Corp. The drug store chain said Thursday that for the four weeks ended Jan. 22, comparable-store sales increased 1.1% from a year earlier, building on a 0.6% same-store sales gain in December.

Exclusivity for Plavix gets extended

Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and sanofi-aventis have received expanded exclusivity for the blood thinner medication Plavix. The companies said Tuesday that the Food and Drug Administration has granted an additional six-month period of exclusivity for them to market Plavix (clopidogrel bisulfate).
