Walgreen Co. has acquired prescription files from SpecialtyScripts LLC, a unit of Cardinal Health Inc. The drug store chain said the acquisition will enable Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy to scale the operations of its current locations. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Fall River, Mass.

CVS Caremark Corp. has made a round of promotions in its CVS/pharmacy business. The company said Thursday that Mike Bloom has been promoted to executive vice president for merchandising and supply chain. He previously held the title of senior vice president in that role.

Rite Aid posts monthly same-store sales decline

Same-store sales fell again at Rite Aid Corp. in February, with the drug chain pointing to a weak cough, cold and flu season as well as bad weather and anemic consumer demand. For the five weeks ended Feb. 27, same-store sales dropped 3.2% over the prior-year period, Rite Aid said Thursday.

February same-store sales virtually flat at Walgreens

Walgreen Co. ended a downward trend in same-store sales with a small uptick in February. The drug store chain on Wednesday reported a 0.4% year-over-year gain in same-store sales for the month, improving from a 1.1% decline in January and a 0.3% dip in December.
