SEATTLE — Starting this weekend, Bartell Drugs plans to hold health screenings, beauty care demonstrations and product samplings, among other activities, for its annual "Health & Beauty Week" event.
The 61-store, Seattle-area drug chain said Thursday that health activities for Health & Beauty Week, which runs Oct. 6 to 12, will include mobile digital mammography screenings by Evergreen Health at Bartell stores in Bella Bottega, Bellevue Village, Bridle Trails, Burien, Crossroads, Houghton, Seattle Hill Road and Snohomish, Wash.
Using the same equipment as the Breast Center at Evergreen Health, the mobile digital mammography unit includes a private changing room and an analysis by board-certified breast radiologists. On-site Evergreen staff will accept Medicare and most insurance plans, according to Bartell.
In addition, Bartell will offer health clinic testing and screenings free or at a discounted fee at its Factoria, Fairwood, Rainier Avenue, Sammamish Highlands and Seattle Hill Road stores. Services will include blood glucose testing, blood glucose meter exchange and education, cholesterol testing, bone density screenings for osteoporosis, blood pressure checks for hypertension, and other screenings.
Beauty-related activities will focus on the latest colors and products for the fall. At 20 Bartell stores, cosmetologists will give "mini makeovers" featuring products from CoverGirl, L’Oreal and Neutrogena. Also, Conair will also host hair styling demos that spotlight the latest hair styling tools and tips, Bartell said.
Product samplings for Health & Beauty Week will range from cosmetics to nutritional supplements. And on Oct. 12, Bartell will host celebrity fitness and nutrition expert JJ Virgin, author of the New York Times bestseller "The Virgin Diet: Drop 7 Foods, Lose 7 Pounds, Just 7 Days," at its Queen Anne and University Village stores.
