SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs and the Space Needle have established a multidimensional partnership in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the structure — the centerpiece of the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair.

The Space Needle and Bartell will collaborate on a variety of community-focused promotions and events throughout the anniversary.

Bartell has already invited customers to help design reusable shopping bags with a Space Needle theme. Children submitted drawings of the landmark, while adults entered photos.

Grand prize winners in child and adult categories received a $200 Space Needle SkyCity restaurant gift card and a $100 Bartell gift card. The winning photo and artwork will be featured on reusable bags at Bartell outlets in September.

The drug chain is supporting the partnership with print and broadcast ads, in-store merchandising, and public relations for copromotions.

“The Space Needle is easily one of the most recognizable symbols in the world, and it remains the region’s most popular destination for both visitors and area residents,” said Bartell chairman and chief executive officer George Bartell. “We look forward to celebrating its past and future.”

Space Needle LLC president and CEO Ron Sevart said: “There is a responsibility that goes with being an icon of our city. And part of that is to forge strong community partnerships. The opportunity to work with such a highly regarded company as Bartell Drugs is exciting for us.”
