WASHINGTON — The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) has hired Patrick Plues as senior director of state government relations.

BIO said Monday that Plues will lead its engagement in and support of state-level health legislative and regulatory issues and promote the responsible development of the bioscience industry and a better understanding of policy issues critical to members.

Plues brings to BIO over 20 years of experience in state and federal government affairs, the majority of that time advocating on behalf of the biopharmaceutical industry. He previously led Cephalon’s federal government affairs efforts, and before that he directed state and federal advocacy initiatives for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

"I have known, respected and worked with Patrick for over 10 years. He is a skilled government affairs professional with a deep understanding of the biotechnology industry. His health care expertise along with his knowledge of state and federal legislative issues position him well to lead BIO’s health-related state government affairs activities," commented Fritz Bittenbender, executive vice president of public affairs for BIO.
