WASHINGTON — Consumer Healthcare Products Association president and CEO Scott Melville plans to step down early next year, ending 16 years at the helm of the self-care industry trade association.

Melville has led CHPA since 2010, overseeing the organization’s expansion beyond its traditional focus on over-the-counter medicines to include a broader range of self-care products, including dietary supplements and OTC medical devices.

“On behalf of the Board and our members, I want to express our deep gratitude to Scott for his extraordinary leadership and unwavering commitment to CHPA and the self-care industry,” said Greg Bradley, chairman of Foundation Consumer Healthcare and chair of the CHPA Board of Directors. “Scott has been a tireless advocate for our members, a trusted voice with policymakers, and a steady leader through periods of significant change.”

During Melville’s tenure, CHPA advanced several major policy priorities, including OTC monograph reform and the restoration of eligibility for OTC medicines under health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts. He also led the association through the COVID-19 pandemic and oversaw efforts to strengthen the Health In Hand Foundation’s consumer education initiatives.

“Serving as CHPA’s President and CEO for the past 16 years has been a tremendous privilege,” said Melville. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together on behalf of our members and the consumers who rely on self-care products every day.”

Melville said he plans to spend more time with his family while remaining active through board and committee service, volunteer work, and civic and political involvement.

CHPA’s search for its next president and CEO will be led by Bradley and chair-elect Phil McWaters, senior vice president and general manager of North America Personal Health Care at Procter & Gamble, in collaboration with the association’s Executive Committee.
