MADISON, Wis.— Clarventa today announced TrueNet, an innovative prescription drug program that focuses on upfront discounts for the costliest medications, delivering greater value to patients, payers, pharmacies and manufacturers.
TrueNet shifts how participants throughout the drug supply chain realize savings in drug purchasing, from waiting months or quarters for rebates to real-time savings at the point of sale. It is a major milestone for Clarventa, a new company committed to innovating across pharmacy through smarter sourcing.
For decades, prescription drug contracting has relied on administrative layers and retrospective rebates, which obscure how value moves through the supply chain. This creates confusion about who ultimately benefits from available savings. As regulatory and consumer pressure grows to improve prescription drug affordability and transparency, patients, payers, pharmacies and manufacturers have demanded a better approach.
“The pharmacy industry has spent years trying to manage rising costs after they occur, often without clear visibility into the pricing, incentives and supply-chain dynamics driving those costs in the first place,” said Michael DePaz, Vice President, Supply Chain, at Clarventa. “Clarventa exists to bring clarity to complexity. With TrueNet, we’re transforming how industry partners work together to deliver smarter, more cost-effective pharmaceutical care.”
He added: “We built Clarventa on a simple idea: The pharmacy supply chain works best when incentives are aligned and value reaches the organizations and patients it was intended to serve. TrueNet brings that vision to life by creating greater visibility into pharmaceutical purchasing and helping make medications more affordable for patients at the pharmacy counter.”
TrueNet lets plans and plan sponsors realize savings immediately rather than waiting for rebates. A recent study found that a time value of money savings of $1.25 per member per month can result from a net-price model compared with a rebate model.
Here’s how TrueNet provides value to participants within the drug supply chain:
- For manufacturers, it offers value directly to members and plan sponsors, enhancing pharmacy access and patient care.
- For pharmacies, operating in an increasingly margin-constrained environment, it creates pricing transparency and more predictable economics.
- For health plans and plan sponsors, it reveals a clearer view of drug costs and unlocks immediate savings.
- For patients, it lowers out-of-pocket costs when they fill their prescriptions.
“For too long, drug pricing has been difficult to explain and even harder to track,” DePaz said. “When costs and savings are visible, everyone can make better decisions. TrueNet brings clarity to cost and helps more savings flow in real time to pharmacies, payers and patients.”
