WOONSOCKET, R.I. — About 350 community clinics and health centers nationwide will participate in a program by CVS Caremark Corp. and nonprofit group Direct Relief USA to donate up to $5 million in flu shots to patients without health insurance.
CVS Caremark, which announced the program with Direct Relief USA earlier this month, said Monday that the participating clinics and health centers will identify uninsured individuals from their patient populations and provide them with a voucher for a free flu shot that can be redeemed at any CVS/pharmacy or MinuteClinic health clinic. The flu shot vouchers are available while supplies last.
All CVS/pharmacy and MinuteClinic locations began offering flu vaccinations late last month. CVS/pharmacy has more than 7,000 locations across the country, and MinuteClinic has more than 500 locations inside CVS drug stores.
Direct Relief USA works with 1,100 clinics and health centers in all 50 states, providing with free medications and supplies for their low-income and uninsured patients. Most of the facilities in Direct Relief’s network are affiliated with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) or the National Association of Free Clinics (NAFC).
