WOONSOCKET, R.I. — Jonathan Roberts has been appointed chief operating officer of CVS Caremark Corp.’s pharmacy benefit management (PBM) business.
Under the move Roberts, currently executive vice president of Rx purchasing, pricing and network relations, will also assume the leadership of PBM operations, mail service pharmacy and specialty pharmacy, the company said Thursday.
"Jon is the ideal candidate to fill this newly created role within the PBM," Per Lofberg, president of pharmacy benefit management at CVS Caremark, said in a statement. "His broad base of pharmacy experience will further our mission to continually improve how we do business and look for ways to do it better, more efficiently and at a lower cost."
CVS Caremark noted that the 54-year-old Roberts is an experienced health care executive and pharmacist. He joined CVS/pharmacy nearly 20 years ago and has served in various leadership roles across the enterprise, including senior vice president of store operations for CVS/pharmacy and chief information officer for CVS Caremark.
"Jon has spearheaded numerous initiatives over the years that have enhanced our delivery of pharmacy care," stated Tom Ryan, chairman and chief executive officer of CVS Caremark. "I am confident that in this newly expanded role Jon will support our PBM growth strategy and overall longer-term success."
CVS Caremark’s PBM unit has seen several executive moves going back almost a year.
Last November, Len Greer was named senior vice president of marketing for the PBM business. And in late December, the company appointed Lofberg as president of the PBM unit, filling the post vacated by Howard McLure, who had retired in late November.
More recently, in late April, CVS Caremark executive vice president and chief marketing officer Helena Foulkes was tabbed to lead PBM product innovation and marketing, reporting directly to Lofberg.
