CVS Health’s Ed DeVaney named PCMA board chair

WASHINGTON — The Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) has named Ed DeVaney, executive vice president and president of CVS Caremark at CVS Health, chair of its board of directors.

DeVaney, who has more than 25 years of health care and pharmacy benefit management experience, succeeds Adam Kautzner, PharmD, president of Evernorth Care Management and Express Scripts at Evernorth Health Services.

“I’d like to thank Adam for his thoughtful, dedicated work leading our board, and congratulate Ed on assuming the chairmanship,” said David Marin, PCMA president and CEO. “The PBM industry has transformed into the most transparent part of the prescription drug supply chain and continues to deliver on our promise to lower drug prices. And yet real affordability challenges remain for American families and employers. The work PBMs do to lower prescription drug costs and provide clinical services will never be more important. Ed understands these affordability issues, and we look forward to his leadership as PCMA’s chairman of the Board of Directors at this critical moment.”

DeVaney said his priorities as board chair will include communicating the role pharmacy benefit managers play in prescription drug affordability and access.

“The role PBMs play in lowering costs and improving access to prescription drugs for Americans is critically important,” said Ed DeVaney. “As Board Chair, I’m committed to ensuring PCMA shares our story with policymakers, consumers and employers so they have a full understanding of the work we do to fulfill our commitment to lower drug costs.”
