WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy is waiving prescription co-payments, deductibles and other financial liability at 45 stores in several New York City boroughs and on Long Island that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
The drug chain said Thursday that the co-pay waiver program, designed to help those in hard-hit neighborhoods who cannot pay, will run until the end of the month.
The effort is being undertaken with the cooperation of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the New York City Office of the Mayor and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
CVS said the program isn’t a blanket waiver of all co-pays and that requests to cover medication costs will be evaluated case by case.
CVS drug stores participating in the co-pay waiver program include locations in Staten Island (17 stores), Brooklyn (12 stores), Queens (five stores) and Long Island’s Nassau County (11 stores). Many of the locations are in shoreline communities that experienced flooding from the storm
In addition, CVS said it’s operating a mobile pharmacy at the site of its closed store on Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Rockaway Beach, N.Y. The facility will also participate in the co-pay waiver program.
