BELLEVUE, Wash. — Online retailer drugstore.com inc. reported a strong start to its holiday selling season.
On Cyber Monday, traditionally the kickoff of the online holiday shopping season, the company reported its highest number of orders ever.
“While one day does not make the season, we are delighted that customers responded in record numbers to drugstore.com and Beauty.com offers on Cyber Monday,” chief marketing officer David Lonczak says.
Shoppers are turning to the Internet for a greater number of purchases and have found drugstore.com’s offering appealing, he points out.
“Our selection, prices, free shipping and cash-back program seem to have struck a positive cord with consumers, and we plan to keep many of these ‘cyber deals’ in place throughout the holiday season and beyond,” Lonczak says.
Holiday best sellers on the web sites included toys (Jakks Pacific Inc.’s EyeClops Mini Projector and Marshmallow Fun Co.’s Marshmallow Shooters), personal care products (Philips Sonicare and Oral-B brand power toothbrushes, as well as the Braun Pulsonic shaver) and beauty products (International Research Laboratories’ RapidLash Eyelash Renewal System, Beauty by Borghese Holiday Gift Set and DuWop Cosmetics Inc.’s DuWop Twilight Lip Venom).
On Cyber Monday, the day following the Thanksgiving weekend, there’s typically a surge in Internet shopping traffic as consumers look for online retailers to top discounts and other deals they’ve seen in brick-and-mortar stores since Black Friday.
