ST. LOUIS — Energizer Holdings Inc. plans to buy Johnson & Johnson’s feminine care brands in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean for $185 million.

Energizer said Wednesday that under the deal it will acquire the Stayfree, Carefree and o.b. feminine hygiene brands as well as a manufacturing plant in Montreal.

"We are very excited about the prospect of combining the Stayfree pad, Carefree liner and o.b. tampon feminine hygiene business with our Playtex Feminine Care business, strengthening both in the process," Energizer chief executive officer Ward Klein said in a statement. "Combining these complementary businesses gives us brands in each of the key feminine hygiene categories, and the opportunity to innovate by doing what we do best: simplifying and enhancing the lives of customers and consumers better than anyone else."

Energizer expects the deal to close by the end of the current fiscal quarter and contribute modestly to earnings next year.
