QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop is now providing flu shots without an appointment at all of its in-store pharmacies.
The Ahold USA supermarket chain said Wednesday that its New England division has launched its annual flu immunization effort. Its New York Metro division began providing flu vaccines on a walk-in basis about a week earlier.
Overall, Stop & Shop has 400 stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and New Jersey.
"Flu shots are reformulated every year, so it’s important for people to receive vaccinations annually," Joel Berman, pharmacy director for the Stop & Shop New England division, said in a statement. "We are proud to be able to offer affordable and convenient immunizations each year in order to help keep our customers and their families healthy."
Flu vaccines cost $35 at Stop & Shop pharmacies in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Yor and are priced at $25 in the chain’s New Jersey stores. Customers with a Stop & Shop prescription savings card get $10 off the regular price of a flu shot, except in New Jersey.
Stop & Shop also has partnered with various vendors to offer customers receiving a flu vaccination a free coupon book worth more than $40 in savings.
The retailer said Stop & Shop pharmacists also are available to provide on-site flu clinics at workplaces and businesses in the communities they serve.
"Our pharmacists provide our customers with a robust health and wellness experience, make an effort to acknowledge and counsel them on all new therapy and therapy changes, and communicate the value we provide," stated Anthony Ponzio, director of pharmacy for the Stop & Shop New York Metro division.
Stop & Shop pharmacies also offer other adult vaccinations without an appointment, including for pneumonia and shingles, the company added.
