SOMERSET, N.J. — Gavis Pharmaceuticals has released a generic version of Teva Pharmaceutical’s Plan B One Step emergency contraceptive.
Called My Way (levonorgestrol 1.5 mg), the new product is available without a prescription to women ages 17 and older, Gavis said late Wednesday.
My Way is offered over the counter at the pharmacy desk. According to Gavis, the pill should be taken within three days (72 hours) of unprotected sex. The sooner it’s taken, the better chance it’s effective, the company noted.
"Gavis is committed to bringing quality and affordable drug products to market," stated Veerappan Subramanian, chief executive officer of Gavis. "We understand the importance of emergency contraception for women and are proud to offer My Way, a simple and affordable one-pill option."
