The Ahold USA food and drug retailer said Tuesday that the clinic, opened in conjunction with Aria Health FastCare, provides health care for common illnesses and ailments — such as flu, sore throat, ear infections and allergies — as well as preventive health services like sports physicals.
"For many years, our pharmacists have been strong health resources in our stores by providing information and offering flu clinics," Leigh Shirley, director of pharmacy at Giant Food Stores, said in a statement. "This new partnership with Aria Health FastCare will expand the health and wellness resources we are able to offer to our customers and provide them with an alternative choice for those needing medical treatment."
The clinic’s health services are provided by Aria Health professionals, but customers don’t have to be an Aria patient to receive care, according to Giant. Patients must be 18 months or older, and some services have age restrictions.
Giant’s other retail health clinics are inside stores in Lancaster and York, Pa.
Overall, the chain operates about 200 supermarkets, most with pharmacies, in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets banners.
