DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — The global compounding pharmacy market is projected to grow from $15.48 billion in 2026 to $21.01 billion by 2031, driven by rising demand for personalized medications and patient-specific formulations, according to a new MarketsandMarkets report.
The market is expected to achieve a compound annual growth rate of 6.3% over the forecast period. MarketsandMarkets cited growing demand for personalized, ready-to-administer, and standardized doses, as well as supply gaps for GLP-1 drugs, as factors supporting growth.
North America accounted for about 43.5% of the global market in 2025, making it the largest regional market. Oral drugs were the largest product segment, with a 33.4% share. Adults accounted for 58.3% of the market by end user.
Pharmaceutical dosage alteration was the largest compounding category in 2025 and is projected to be the fastest-growing segment through 2031, with a CAGR of 7.1%. The report cited demand for customized medication strengths and dosage forms, particularly for pediatric and geriatric patients and for people with difficulty swallowing.
Hormone replacement therapy is expected to be the fastest-growing therapeutic application from 2026 through 2031. MarketsandMarkets said that compounded HRT allows pharmacies to customize hormone type, dosage, and delivery methods to individual patient needs.
The report also highlights increased investment in compounding capacity, including sterile and non-sterile operations, 503A patient-specific preparations, 503B outsourcing facilities, and automation and quality systems. Recent transactions include Fagron’s approximately $41.5 million acquisition of University Compounding Pharmacy, which expanded its U.S. 503A platform.
MarketsandMarkets identified Baxter, Empower Pharmacy, B. Braun, Fagron and QuVa Pharma among the leading companies in the market.
