PALM BEACH, Fla. — Robert Loeffler, former chief executive officer of H-E-B, has been recognized by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores with its highest honor, the Sheldon W. Fantle Lifetime Achievement Award.
Loeffler, a past chairman of NACDS, was presented the award Tuesday night by Thrifty White Pharmacy president and CEO Robert Narveson, the new NACDS chairman, at the close of the NACDS Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla.
"Our honoree exemplifies that hard work, dedication and leadership can make a real difference within a company. From his upbringing in a small town to assuming the president’s position in his company, tonight’s recipient worked diligently to develop a career and life of significance," Narveson said in giving Loeffler the award.
"Tonight’s honoree also recognized one’s obligation to serve the community and is active in various civic and charitable endeavors. He is a man dedicated to action, his family and making a difference for others. He is detail-oriented and has a keen financial eye. He is a tough competitor and was responsible for his company operating some of the best-run stores in our industry."
Established in 1989, the Fantle Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes exceptional accomplishments and contributions to the industry. It was renamed in 1996 in honor of Bud Fantle of People’s Drug Stores.
Tuesday evening’s Annual Meeting Dinner and Awards Ceremony also were attended by several industry icons and past Fantle Award recipients, including Jack Futterman of Supermarkets General (1997), Jerry Heller of May’s Drug Stores (2003), Robert Kwait of Kwait & Associates (2005) and Morry Weiss of American Greetings (2006). In addition, during the event, NACDS paid tribute to the late Sam Skaggs of American Stores, who was the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Skaggs passed away in March.
