ARLINGTON, Va. — Nancy-Ann DeParle, former deputy chief of staff for policy for President Obama, will be the keynote speaker at the NACDS Chain Members and Political Action Committee breakfast next month.
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores said Tuesday that in her remarks at the breakfast, to be held April 22 during the NACDS Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla., DeParle will discuss the long-term impact of the Affordable Care Act, provide an insider’s view of the landmark legislation, and address trends in Medicare and health care delivery reform.
DeParle served as President Obama’s deputy chief of staff for policy and as one of his most senior advisers. From 2009-2011, she was counselor to the president and director of the White House Office of Health Reform, where she led the efforts on health care reform, including helping to write and pass the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to NACDS.
"Known as the health reform ‘czar,’ we are delighted that NACDS members will have an opportunity to hear from leading health care expert Nancy-Ann DeParle about the inner-workings of health policy during the health care reform debate," NACDS president and chief executive officer Steve Anderson said in a statemewnt. "Her remarks will be quite timely given the current implementation of key provisions of the Affordable Care Act that will impact community pharmacy and patients."
Since leaving the White House, DeParle has been a lecturer in law at Harvard Law School and a guest scholar in economic studies at the Brookings Institution. Before serving in the Obama administration, she worked in the White House budget office under President Bill Clinton. She also served as the associate director for health and personnel at the Office of Management and Budget, handled budgets for federal health care programs, and managed Medicare and Medicaid as the administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The NACDS Annual Meeting runs April 20 to 23 and is expected to draw more than 2,000 retail executives from the drug, food and mass merchandising retail sectors, as well as and their supplier partners.
