Heritage releases Calan generic

Heritage Pharmaceuticals Inc. has rolled verapamil 40-mg immediate-release tablets, a calcium channel blocker medication. Heritage said that its verapamil product is a generic version of Pfizer Inc.’s Calan, indicated for the treatment of angina, arrhythmias and hypertension.

EATONTOWN, N.J. — Heritage Pharmaceuticals Inc. has rolled verapamil 40-mg immediate-release tablets, a calcium channel blocker medication.

Heritage said that its verapamil product is a generic version of Pfizer Inc.’s Calan, indicated for the treatment of angina, arrhythmias and hypertension. The drug works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels.

With the launch of the product, Heritage now offers generic equivalents for all three strengths of verapamilL 40 mg, 80 mg and 120 mg, the company noted.

According to IMS Health data, for the 12 months ended in October, the U.S. market for Verapamil 40-mg immediate-release tablets totaled approximately $1.95 million.
